Several developed and primitive recreation sites dot the four-mile shoreline of the Snake River at Milner Historic Recreation Area. The area’s basalt cliffs and surrounding sagebrush/grassland are a year-round haven for songbirds and waterfowl, with excellent fishing for bass, channel catfish, yellow perch, and trout and ice fishing most winters. Over 100 years ago, emigrants on the Oregon Trail passed through here, and segments marked by deep ruts are still visible. Just north of the west entrance to Milner, there is an interpretive shelter and an interpretive hiking trail leading to some of the ruts. This is a fee site. It is $5/night for camping and $3 for day use.
