From Elko, drive south on NV 227 toward Spring Creek for approximately 7 miles. Turn right and drive south on NV 228 for 24 miles. Three entrance locations to recreation area and reservoir are located on the right side of road.

Immediately east of the splendid Ruby Mountains, along the Hastings Cutoff of the California National Historic Trail, this reservoir remains accessible during winter months due to its close proximity to paved state Hwy. 228. However, the resvoir is dry during drought years. The area is a popular access point for the Humboldt National Forest and the Ruby Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Camping, hiking and photographic opportunities are endless. There is open camping on the north and south shores, 9 developed sites with tables, grills, vault toilets, day use area, no drinking water. Fees $2.00 per visit.
