Alerts! Forest Service Road 2880 is steep and not navigatable for trailers. Forest Road 2870-230 spur road that provides access to the trailhead has no trailer turn-around and no trailhead parking due to slide damage. 

From Sequim, WA travel east on US Highway 101 and turn south onto Palo Alto Road and follow to Forest Service Road 2880 (¼ mile beyond the 28 Road). Turn right onto Forest Service Road 2880 (steep road, not recommended for trailers), and travel 2 miles. Then stay to the left onto Forest Service Road 2870 and go 2.4 miles. Turn left onto the 2870-230 spur and drive 1.6 miles to the trailhead.

From Quilcene, WA take US Highway 101 north for 25.7 miles, then turn south onto the Louella Road (across from Sequim Bay State Park). Go 1 mile, turn left onto Palo Alto and follow to FS Road 2880 (¼ mile beyond the 28 Road). Turn right onto Forest Service Road 2880 (steep road, not recommended for trailers). Go 2 miles, stay to the left onto Forest Service Road 2870 and go 2.4 miles. Turn left onto the 2870-230 spur and drive 1.6 miles to the trailhead.

Trailer Access:

From Sequim, WA take US Highway 101 west for 2.5 miles and head south onto Taylor Cutoff Road. Go 2.7 miles to Lost Mountain Road and proceed 2.5 miles. Turn left onto Forest Service Road #2870. Follow Forest Service Road #2870 9.5 miles to the 2870-230 spur, turn left and travel 1.6 miles to trailhead.

Lower Dungeness/Gold Creek Trailhead

Lower Dungeness Trail #833.3 – A multi-use trail within conifer forest above Dungeness River. 

Gold Creek Trail #830 – Mulit-use trail within conifer forest on steep mountain slopes in the Dungeness drainage. The trail is heavily wooded with viewpoints. Water is scarce.
