Know Before You Go!
Cimarron Canyon State Park is closed due to the Ute Park Fire. Hyde Memorial, Fenton Lake, and Morphy Lake State Parks are also currently closed until further notice due to extreme fire danger in the Santa Fe National Forest. Many New Mexico State Parks are currently under Fire Restrictions. Please check the Park status before you go on New Mexico State Parks.com Nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 8,000 feet in elevation, this hidden lake sits at the edge of the Pecos Wilderness. The park is located 7 miles southwest of Mora. The park is one of New Mexico’s smaller state parks, at only 30 acres, and the lake has a surface area of approximately 15 acres.

The park is popular for fishing, camping, and picnicking, however there is no running water, so visitors must pack their own. The lake is stocked with trout, and kokanee salmon. Boats are allowed on the lake, but no gas powered motors are allowed. Its high altitude (8,000 ft) and location in northern New Mexico cause the lake to freeze over in the winter, allowing ice fishing to take place.

The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and offers excellent fishing. Canoeing is also a popular activity and this pristine scenic spot offers a unique opportunity for primitive camping. Due to parking and campsite size limitations, maximum RV length allowed is 18 feet.

During Peak Season March through October Morphy Lake offers Camping, Restrooms, and Trails. Morphy Lake is closed October 31st through February weather permitting. Please note RV™s longer than 30ft should be cautious as roads are narrow to and from park, turning around is almost impossible.
