You™ll find this true oasis just north of Portales, NM. Oasis State Park is set among cottonwood trees, shifting sand dunes, and a small fishing lake. Oasis State park preserves the beauty of this oasis in the sandy desert of the Llano Estacado or staked plains, forming the high plateau grasslands of eastern New Mexico and west Texas. Oasis State Park was established in 1961.

The pond is stocked with catfish and trout. Trails weave up and down and around the sand dunes; watch carefully for lizards, snakes, and other wildlife that make the sand their home! A ball field lies near the center of the park.

Bird watching is a popular activity in Oasis State Park. More than 80 bird species make their home at the park during the year. It™s especially ideal in winter. Look for great blue heron, ring neck pheasant, quail, and western sandpiper.

Oasis State Park offers a visitor center with exhibits, 29 developed campsites, 17 electric hook-ups, 2 Full hook-ups, 10 campsites with water, allows horseback riding, showers, group shelters, restrooms, dump stations, fishing, playground, trails, and R.V. pull through sites.
